Recently separated Star Jones (Reynolds) has fired back at Barbara Walters after the veteran interviewer’s appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
During her taped appearance on Tuesday (May 6) to discuss her new book, “Audition”, Ms. Walters discussed several topics, including her secret affair with a married Senator in the late 1960s and the departure of Mrs. Jones-Reynolds from The View, the daytime talk show they co-hosted together along with Meredith Vieira and Joy Bayard.
Ms. Walters spoke to Oprah about controversies surrounding Mrs. Jones-Reynolds 2004 wedding to Al Reynolds and her sudden, extreme weight loss. She confirmed that the show’s viewers were turned off Ms. Jones’ non-stop promotion of her wedding and the corporate sponsors who were picking up the tab for everything.
On the topic of her weight loss Ms. Walters stated, “She decided to have a gastric bypass operation, but then she decided not to tell anybody. Then we had to lie on the set everyday because she said it was portion control and Pilates. Well, we knew it wasn’t portion control and Pilates.”
Not wasting any time Mrs. Jones-Reynolds released a brief but pointed statement to UsMagazine.com stating,
“It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book. It speaks to her true character.”
Barbara Walter’s rep responded saying, “I will not dignify this with a comment. Barbara’s written words say it all!”
Star Jones-Reynolds filed for devorce last month.
