Titled Old-ish, the show will center around Dre Johnson’s (Anthony Anderson) parents Ruby (Jenifer Lewis) and Pops (Laurence Fishburne) as they give love a second chance when they move in together in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Los Angeles. They’ll meet characters who represent the old and new faces of the community as they try to make it work as a married couple. Again.
This will be the third spinoff of the franchise. The first, Grown-ish, followed the Johnson’s oldest child Zoey (Yara Shahidi) off to college. The second, Mixed-ish, is a prequel about Rainbow Johnson’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) experience growing up as a mixed child in the 1980’s. The show stars starring Tika Sumpter, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, and Arica Himmel as a young Rainbow.
Both Grown-ish and Mixed-ish have been hits with fans and critics. Black-ish is entering it’s seventh season. New episodes may be delayed until later this year or the beginning of 2021 because of COVID-19.
No word yet as to when Old-ish will premiere.
