Remy Ma is praying for a miracle. The imprisoned rapper retained the services of attorney William “Billy” Murphy, Jr. and his law firm to aid in appealing her March ’08 conviction on assault, illegal weapons possession and attempted coercion charges.
Though a statement Remy, born Reminisce Smith, said:

“With the addition of Mr. Murphy, Ravenell, and Levitt, I now believe I have assembled a team that will have the might and expertise to tell my side of the story. I am confident that after hearing everything my side will prevail. Mr. Murphy comes highly recommended and I am pleased that he has agreed to lead my defense team.”
A Judge-turned-lawyer, Mr. Murphy made a name for himself in 1998 when, serving as legal counsel for Don King, he helped the boxing promoter beat federal fraud charges brought against him by the Lloyd’s of London. He recently successfully secured a $35 million civil judgment for former Ravens Defensive End Michael McCrary.
Ms. Smith was sentenced to 8 years in prison back in May for shooting a friend over missing money. She’s serving her time at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County, New York.
