Rapper Gucci Mane was forced to abandon concert plans at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) after students protested the show.
The concert, billed as Gucci Mane and Friends, was to take place on October 24 but controversy over the rapper’s lyrics and possible gang affiliation caused uproar among students. The protests coupled with Gucci Mane’s legal problems –he’s currently under house arrest and is due in a Georgia court on October 26 to answer allegations that he violated his parole– forced Gucci Mane to pull out of the event.
The FAMU’s student magazine The Famuan quotes the show’s promoter Willie McKenzie as saying, “Gucci was booked and paid to come. I got a call last week (from Gucci Mane’s lawyer) saying his court date had been pushed to the Monday after the show and the judge would have to approve him to leave the state (of Georgia).”
Gucci Mane is scheduled to headline a homecoming concert at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University on 31 October (09) despite similar protest by that university’s students.
