Last month the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for its 2020 induction. Nominees included Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G. and Rufus featuring Chaka Khan.
In order to be nominated for the class of 2020 an artist would have had to have their first single or album released in or before 1994. Over 1,000 people —mostly music industry insiders, artists, journalists, and historians— will cast their ballots, with results release in January 2020. Top vote getters are then officially inducted during a ceremony at Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020.
This is the first time nominations for late-greats Houston and B.I.G., but fourth for Rufus.
If all three win their nominations, great. If not, no big deal. They don’t need the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Biggie reshaped rap music in the short time he had. You’d be hard pressed to find a greater vocal talent than Whitney Houston. And Rufus featuring Chaka Khan are Funk music icons.
Others with nominations for the class of 2020 include the Doobie Brothers, the Dave Matthews Band, and Soundgarden.
