Samuel L. Jackson, of “Black Snake Moan” and “Snakes on a Plane” fame, has been cast in the role of Sho’nuff, the Shogun of Harlem in the Columbia Pictures remake of the 80s cult classic “The Last Dragon,” a role played brilliantly in the original by Julius Carry, who passed away on August 19.
According to comingsoon.net “Dragon,” co-produced by Wu-Tang Clan‘s RZA and Dallas Jackson (Jackson will also write the script) will follow the same plot line as the original, ‘young martial arts student Leroy Green in his quest through the streets of New York to achieve the highest level of martial arts accomplishment, known as the Last Dragon.’
“I’m a huge fan of the original and look forward to bringing Sho’Nuff into the 21st century,” Jackson said.
John Davis of Davis Entertainment and Kerry Gordy, son of Motown legend Berry Gordy, are producing the flick. The original “Dragon” was executive produced by the elder Mr. Gordy.
