Police in Smyrna, Georgia arrested R&B singer Lyfe Jennings after the multi-platinum selling artist allegedly fired off a gun and took officers on a brief highway chase.
Cops arriving to investigate a call of gunshots fired spotted the 30-year-old Jennings, born Chester Jennings, fleeing the scene in a Corvette and gave chase. Mr. Jennings was apprehended after losing control of the vehicle and crashing, he refused a DUI test. Mr. Jennings suffered some facial contusions (as pictured in his mugshot below) but no information was released on any other injuries.
Mr. Jennings, who spent a decade in prison before finding success in the music industry, faces felony weapon possession by a convicted felon, attempting to elude, discharging a firearm near in public, and refusing to take the sobriety test charges.
No word on when he will go before a judge.
In 1992 Mr. Jennings was convicted of arson, he served 10 years in a Ohio prison before being released in December of 2002. A year after his release he appeared on the talent search television show “The Apollo,” winning the amateur competition five times before launching a very successful music career.
