Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill was charged in federal court Thursday with failing to file her taxes for three years, on income of $1.8 million. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Hill, 37, did not file returns with the Internal Revenue Service in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Hill is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate on June 29.
Hill was of founding member the highly successful hip-hop trio The Fugees before branching off on a solo career in 1998 with the release of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”, which sold more than 10 million copies and won five Grammy awards.
