Fat Joe Challenges Daddy Yankee to Debate Over McCain Support

Fat Joe

Fat Joe has come out swinging against fellow rapper Daddy Yankee’s endorsement earlier this week of presidential candidate John McCain.

Fat Joe, born Joseph Cartagena, is in Denver attending the Democratic Convention, he called the reggaeton artist a “sellout” for his support of the republican candidate, “I feel real disgusted that Daddy Yankee would do that.”

Talking to reporters after appearing with Senator McCain on Monday (Aug 25) at a high school in Arizona Daddy Yankee, whose real name is Ramon Ayala, said, “I believe in his (McCain) ideals and his proposals to lead this nation. He’s been a fighter for the Hispanic community.”

Speaking to MTV Mr. Cartagena, who’s been a fixture in the New York rap scene for the last two decades, said he got “sick to my stomach” after learning of Mr. Ayala’s endorsement, “I felt like I wanted to vomit when I seen that.

“The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him. How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure?

“We’re fighting an unjust war. It’s the Latinos and Black kids up in the frontlines, fighting that war… We over here trying to take the troops out of Iraq and bring peace. This guy immediately wants war.

“If he believes John McCain is the better candidate for the Latinos, we could sit down. Even if he wants to get into a debate, we can debate anywhere.

Mr. Cartagena, like many of his rap peers, supports Sen. Barack Obama.
