In a recent interview with ABC’s Here and Now, hip hip icon Doctor Dré revealed some serious health news.
While discussing his book, Doctor Dré Episodes: 1989 – 1995, and the origins of his entertainment career, Dré talked about his health struggles with type 2 diabetes, including going blind, “I’m a type 2 diabetic who’s lost his vision.”
Dré has been very open about his illness. Through his foundation, The Doctor Dré V.I.C. (Visually Impaired Can), he has become a champion of diabetes education, helping others avoid and treat the disease.
Born Andre A. Brown, Dré, along with partner, Ed Lover, hosted the ground breaking program Yo! MTV Raps. The ground breaking music video show introduced rap music to mainstream audiences, helping the genre explode in popularity. Dré’s and Ed Lover’s influence wasn’t limited to television. Their reach extended to radio and film, hosting a morning radio show and starring in films, including 1993’s Who’s the Man?
